Apple Cinnamon Bread Pudding is a warm and comforting dessert that combines the classic flavors of cinnamon and apples with the richness of bread pudding. This dish is perfect for fall gatherings or holiday celebrations, as it makes use of seasonal ingredients that evoke a sense of nostalgia.
The custard-soaked bread cubes meld beautifully with tender apples, creating a delightful texture that’s both creamy and hearty, topped off with a sprinkle of cinnamon for that extra warmth. This recipe isn’t only easy to make but also versatile, allowing you to customize it with your favorite bread type or add-ins such as raisins or nuts.
It can be served warm, drizzled with caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, making it a perfect ending to any meal. Whether enjoyed as a dessert or a special breakfast treat, this Apple Cinnamon Bread Pudding is sure to become a family favorite.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups day-old bread, cubed
- 3 cups apples, peeled and diced
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent the bread pudding from sticking.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the diced apples with a tablespoon of sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Set aside for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- In another mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, remaining sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined. Stir in the ground cinnamon.
- In the greased baking dish, layer the cubed bread evenly. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to guarantee all pieces are soaked. Fold in the apples and, if using, the raisins and nuts.
- Let the mixture sit for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the bread to absorb the liquid. Then, bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Once baked, remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. It can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
Extra Tips:
For an extra flavor boost, consider adding a dash of nutmeg or a splash of bourbon to the custard mixture. You can also experiment with different types of bread such as challah or brioche for a richer taste.
If you prefer a sweeter pudding, drizzle some maple syrup or honey over the top just before serving.
