This Pumpkin Flan is a deliciously creamy dessert that combines the rich flavors of pumpkin with the smooth texture of traditional flan. Perfect for fall gatherings or holiday celebrations, this recipe showcases the natural sweetness of pumpkin along with warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.

The result is a luxurious dessert that’s sure to impress your guests and become a seasonal favorite. Making pumpkin flan is simpler than you might think! The process involves blending cooked pumpkin with eggs, sweetened condensed milk, and spices, then pouring it over a caramelized sugar base.

Once baked in a water bath, this flan develops a silky texture and a delightful caramel top. Serve it chilled for the best experience and enjoy a taste of autumn in every bite.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked pumpkin puree
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup sugar (for caramel)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a large baking dish by filling it with water to create a water bath for the flan. This will help it cook evenly and maintain a creamy texture.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and 1/4 cup of water. Cook, stirring gently, until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden brown color, about 10 minutes. Quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting it to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
  3. In a blender, combine the cooked pumpkin puree, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Blend until smooth and well combined, ensuring there are no lumps.
  4. Pour the pumpkin mixture over the cooled caramel in the baking dish. Carefully place the dish inside the prepared water bath in the oven, making sure the water reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
  5. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool before refrigerating for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  6. To serve, run a knife around the edge of the flan to loosen it, then invert it onto a serving plate. The caramel will flow over the top, creating a beautiful glaze.

Extra Tips:

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a pinch of ginger or cloves to the pumpkin mixture. If you prefer a thicker flan, you can add one additional egg.

Remember to let the flan chill completely before serving, as it will improve the texture and help the flavors meld together.

Enjoy your delightful Pumpkin Flan as a perfect ending to any meal!
