This Maple Blueberry Bread Pudding is a deliciously comforting dessert that combines the sweet flavors of maple syrup with juicy blueberries, creating a delightful treat for any occasion. The soft, custardy bread soaked in a creamy mixture of eggs, milk, and maple syrup bakes to golden perfection, while the blueberries burst with flavor, adding a fruity twist.
This dish is perfect for a cozy brunch or a comforting dessert after dinner, and it’s sure to impress your family and friends. Not only is this recipe easy to prepare, but it also allows for versatility; you can use day-old bread, such as brioche or challah, to achieve the best texture.
The addition of spices like cinnamon or nutmeg can elevate the flavors even further. With its warm, inviting aroma and rich taste, this Maple Blueberry Bread Pudding is a delightful way to enjoy a classic dessert with a unique twist.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups cubed day-old bread (brioche or challah)
- 2 cups milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray to prevent the bread pudding from sticking.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined. This creamy custard mixture will soak into the bread, creating a rich texture.
- Add the cubed bread to the bowl, gently folding it into the custard mixture until all the pieces are well-coated and soaked. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Gently fold in the blueberries, ensuring they’re evenly distributed throughout the mixture. Pour the entire mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. The bread pudding should be firm yet custardy in the middle.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle additional maple syrup on top if desired, and serve warm.
Extra Tips:
For an added touch of flavor, consider adding a sprinkle of nutmeg or a handful of chopped nuts, such as pecans or walnuts, to the mixture. If you prefer a richer pudding, you can substitute half of the milk with heavy cream.
To enhance the presentation, serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
