Bourbon Pecan Bread Pudding is a classic dessert that combines the comforting flavors of sweet bread pudding with the rich, warm notes of bourbon and the crunch of toasted pecans. This dish is perfect for special occasions or holiday gatherings, offering a delightful balance of sweetness and nuttiness.
The creamy custard base is infused with bourbon, which enhances the overall flavor, making each bite a luxurious experience. This recipe is versatile and can be easily customized to suit your taste preferences. You can use different types of bread, such as brioche or challah, and even add dried fruits or chocolate chips for extra texture and flavor.
Topped with a drizzle of bourbon sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, this Bourbon Pecan Bread Pudding is sure to impress your guests and leave them craving more.
Ingredients:
- 8 cups cubed day-old bread (such as brioche or challah)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup bourbon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped pecans (toasted)
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking and guarantee easy removal of the bread pudding once baked.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, bourbon, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined and the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture, gently folding it in until all the bread is coated and soaked. Allow it to sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the custard mixture.
- Fold in the toasted pecans into the soaked bread mixture, making certain they’re evenly distributed throughout.
- Pour the entire mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set but still slightly jiggles.
- Once baked, remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
Extra Tips:
For an even richer flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of maple syrup to the custard mixture. If you prefer a more pronounced bourbon flavor, you can increase the bourbon quantity slightly, keeping in mind that it may alter the texture of the custard.
