Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding is a comforting dessert that combines the rich flavors of chocolate with the warm, custard-like texture of classic bread pudding. This delightful dish features chunks of bread soaked in a creamy mixture of eggs, milk, and sugar, all generously studded with chocolate chips that melt into gooey pockets of chocolate goodness.
It’s perfect for using up stale bread and makes for an indulgent treat that can be served warm or at room temperature. This recipe isn’t only easy to make but also allows for customization based on your personal preferences. You can use any type of bread – from brioche to French bread – and feel free to add nuts, dried fruit, or even a splash of vanilla extract for extra flavor.
Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an extra special touch!
Ingredients:
- 6 cups cubed stale bread
- 2 cups milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
- Butter (for greasing the baking dish)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter to prevent the pudding from sticking.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined and the sugar has dissolved.
- Add the cubed stale bread to the milk mixture, gently folding to guarantee all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Once the bread is sufficiently soaked, fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they’re evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
- Pour the bread and chocolate chip mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Remove the baking dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This dish is delicious warm, either on its own or with a scoop of ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce.
Extra Tips:
To enhance the flavor of your bread pudding, consider adding a handful of chopped nuts or dried fruits such as raisins or cranberries along with the chocolate chips.
If you prefer a richer pudding, substitute some of the milk with heavy cream. For an extra touch of decadence, serve the pudding with a warm chocolate sauce or whipped cream.
